BELMONT, N.C. - The No. 14 Pfeiffer men's soccer team (15-2, 10-0) completed its second straight undefeated Conference Carolinas season as they defeated Belmont Abbey (5-9-2. 3-7) on Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Falcons have now won 23 straight regular season Conference Carolinas matches and will now set their sights on becoming the first team since 1997 to win three consecutive Conference Carolinas Tournament Championships.
Unsurprisingly, it was Nathan Regis who would net the game winner as the senior now has eight winners on the season and 21 on his career. Regis got a helper from Roberto Soares and found the back of the net for his 77th career goal in his 82nd career match just 2:45 into the contest.
Santi Moar would add an insurance goal in the 74th minute as he placed his shot in the bottom right corner of the net for his 10th goal of the season. In the 82nd minute, Regis converted on a penalty kick for his second goal of the day.
Tomas Correa would earn the victory in goal as the Falcons spoiled Belmont Abbey's senior night. Correa is now 12-1 on the year and owns a 27-1 record in his career.
The Falcons will host the quarterfinal round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament on Monday at 7 p.m. against Barton. As the top seed in the tournament, Pfeiffer will earn the right to host both the semifinal and final round of the conference tournament with a win on Monday night.
"Truth be told, we were pretty poor on the day and you need to credit Belmont Abbey," commented Head Coach Bob Reasso. "We weren't efficient in any aspect of the game and now it's knockout soccer the rest of the way."
