High Point, N.C. – Conference Carolinas has announced the Spring Scholar Athletes of the Year, as voted on by the Student-Athlete Affairs Committee and Pfeiffer's Fabio Diniz (Men's Volleyball) and Hannah Watson (Women's Tennis) won the prestigious award. This award is presented annually to a student-athlete in each sport for recognition of their outstanding performance on the field and in the classroom.
Candidates are submitted by each member institution from each of the conference's twenty sponsored sports. To be considered for the honor, the student-athlete must have attended their member institution for at least one year and have reached junior or senior standing with a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher on the four-point scale. Scholar Athletes of the Year must also be represented on their sport's first, second, or third all-conference team, the rosters of which are chosen by coaches at the end of each playing season.
Hannah Watson, from Edinburg, Scotland, is a senior at Pfeiffer University. She was a first team All-Conference member and finished with an overall record of 16-3 in singles and was a perfect 10-0 in conference play. In the conference, she was 8-2 playing in doubles.
Fabio Diniz from Belo Horizonte, Brazil is a senior at Pfeiffer University. The Men's Volleyball player earned a second team All-Conference with a season high of 28 aces. He finished third on the team in kills and second in hitting percentage. Diniz was also a finalist of the 2016 Conference Carolinas Murphy Osborne Award, recognized for his leadership roles on the court and on campus.
